THE HISTORY OF OUR ANCIENT WATER
17th century: Confirmed by Louis XII’s doctor 300 years later, word of these miracle waters had spread far enough for Pierre Milon, Louis XIII’s doctor, to want to go to the village and test them. Milon confirmed that the waters did indeed have healing properties.
19th century: Napoleon visits Napoleon had a thermal hospital built in the village to treat his soldiers’ skin diseases. Later, in 1905, a thermal centre was opened to take advantage of the springs’ qualities.
1913: Declared a spa town La Roche-Posay’s reputation was sealed – the French Academy of Medicine officially declared this quiet little village in western France a spa town.
